Choosing digit height
How far away must your clock or counter be readable? That determines the digit height you need, and therefore the model.
As a rule of thumb, every centimetre of digit height stays comfortably readable up to about 5 metres. Digits of 2.5 cm therefore remain legible up to ~12.5 m, 5.8 cm up to ~29 m, 10.2 cm up to ~51 m and 18 cm up to ~90 m. Choose one size larger for oblique viewing angles or safety-critical applications.
Digit height versus reading distance
| Digit height | Comfortably readable up to | Masterclock models |
|---|---|---|
| 2,5 cm | ~12,5 m | NTDS16NTDS19NTDS112TCDS16TCDS19TCDS112 |
| 5,8 cm | ~29 m | NTDS24NTDS26NTDS29LUX26TCDS24TCDS26TCDS29 |
| 10,2 cm | ~51 m | NTDS44NTDS46NTDS49TCDS44TCDS46TCDS49 |
| 18 cm | ~90 m | NTDS84NTDS86TCDS84TCDS86 |
The values above assume a straight viewing angle in normal indoor light. At large viewing angles or for safety-critical applications, count on a shorter distance, or choose a larger digit height. The digit height is listed in every datasheet and in the product name.
