The GMR5000 is the multi-function NTP and PTP grandmaster for broadcast and broadcasting environments. In addition to NTP and PTP output, the unit generates Black Burst, TLS, Word Clock and SMPTE timecode, so a single GMR5000 synchronises both the IT network and the video chain. NMEA 0183 output is included for maritime integration, along with NENA format for 112 emergency dispatch centres. For stations and control rooms that want a single grandmaster for everything that needs time.

Which broadcast signals can the GMR5000 generate?

The GMR5000 supports Black Burst (BB), Tri-Level Sync (TLS) for HD/3G/4K, Word Clock for digital audio and SMPTE 12M timecode (30/25/24 fps). One unit serves as the reference for the entire broadcast chain, from camera to transmitter.

What is the difference compared to the GMR1000?

The GMR1000 is a compact NTP grandmaster, limited to NTP output over Ethernet. The GMR5000 adds PTP, broadcast signals (BB/TLS/Word Clock/SMPTE), serial outputs (NMEA, NENA) and a larger chassis. For pure NTP the GMR1000 is sufficient; for video, audio and multi-protocol the GMR5000 is the right choice.

Can the GMR5000 be used in a PTP IEC 61850 substation?

The GMR5000 supports IEEE 1588 PTP. For the Power Profile (IEC 61850-9-3) and IEEE C37.238 we recommend the GMR6000, which is purpose-built for digital substations. For general PTP and NTP applications the GMR5000 is fully adequate.
