An outdoor antenna is a lightning magnet. A nearby strike sends thousands of volts down the coax cable to your timeserver, with instant destruction as the result. Surge arrestors divert that overvoltage safely to ground.
When to choose this? Essential on every outdoor antenna install. A one-off investment of a few hundred euros avoids replacing a multi-thousand-euro timeserver. Install in-line between antenna and server.
